BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling has gained popularity for its growing list of benefits. Through a series of treatments, microneedling can rejuvenate and plump the skin with minimal discomfort and very little downtime, and it can be adjusted to fit each person’s needs. The benefits of microneedling can include:

  • Improve the appearance of mild scarring or acne scarring

  • Help reduce the appearance of dark spots or hyperpigmentation

  • Reduce large pore size

  • Diminish the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles

  • Smoother, younger looking skin

  • Improve skin elasticity

  • Reduce the appearance of stretch marks

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used to encourage collagen production by taking advantage of the body’s natural healing response. By creating micro injuries, microneedling causes the body to send blood and growth factors to the area resulting in glowing, healthy skin.

Also called collagen induction therapy (CIT) and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), tiny needles puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury and help produce new collagen and elastin leaving the skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform.

Microneedling is used for skin rejuvenation and can be utilized in conjunction with other treatments.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER MICRONEEDLING

Like all cosmetic procedures, microneedling carries some risks. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days.

Since your skin will be sensitive after your procedure, it’s best to avoid the following during your first week of recovery:

  • Sun exposure

  • Skin care products with alpha-hydroxy acids and retinol

  • Makeup

  • Sweating

You can help your skin heal after microneedling by:

  • Staying hydrated

  • Using an antioxidant serum

  • Using a cooling mask

  • Using collagen-stimulating peptides

Results of microneedling may vary based on the severity of the skin concern, its location, and the treatment plan used. Typically, four to six treatment sessions are recommended with maintenance sessions every few months. Your skin may continue to increase collagen production for 3 to 6 months after completing microneedling treatment sessions.
